What is this?
This popular core training will provide foundational skills for advocates serving adult and child survivors of domestic violence. You'll learn about:
the history of the domestic violence movement;
how systemic racism, sexism, ableism, and other forms of discrimination create barriers to serving marginalized groups;
how diversity, equity, equality, and implicit bias affect service delivery;
ways to become more culturally responsive and inclusive,
the impacts of batterers on family dynamics and how to ally with parents who are survivors;
the importance of a trauma-informed lens, survivor-defined advocacy, safety-planning, and strategies for risk management;
danger and lethality assessments, legal remedies, and the pros and cons of protection orders;
Ohio's Crime Victim Compensation Program.
Come with a desire to explore difficult topics, share with others, and leave with new knowledge to work effectively with survivors and children experiencing domestic violence.
Cost: Free for ODVN Members (ODVN Member Program or Individual/Organizational Membership); $150 for Non-ODVN Members. ***Note: If paying by check, please include the name of the training on the memo line. Scholarships are available on a limited basis. Please contact training@odvn.org for more information.
Deadline to Register: Registration for attendance ends on March 1, 2023.
American Sign Language interpreters will be available during the live training.
Note: This training is hosted by ODVN. If you have any questions, please contact ODVN directly.
